The mission of Keepers of the Coast was visible July 5 at Mickler’s Beachfront Park as 125 volunteers scoured the sand for debris left by people celebrating Independence Day. The annual “The Day After” Beaches Cleanup celebrated its 10th year at several sites in St. Johns County including Vilano Beachfront Park, St. Augustine Beach Pier, A Street Beach Access, Crescent Beachfront Park and Mickler’s Beach. Overall, there was less debris collected this year than in years past according to Tara Dodson, president of Keepers of the Coast. Still, volunteers told her they can’t believe people leave trash behind. more

On June 4, Casa Marina Hotel and Restaurant maître d’, Sterling Joyce, along with Rock Solid Law hosted the fourth annual “Sterling Summer Pier Dance” benefitting the Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry, a nonprofit providing financial assistance to low-income residents of the community. From single parents to senior citizens, BEAM strives to help the beaches community overcome obstacles in life that require financial stability. more
Without fanfare on June 21, the first pilings were set at the dead end of Canal Boulevard to begin construction of a 2,000-square-foot wharf to allow public access to the Intracoastal Waterway. The project first came before the St. Johns County Commission in May 2018. Canal Boulevard separates North Roscoe and South Roscoe Boulevard. more

A recently developed free app is providing newfound protection and peace of mind for all people involved. The app, Safe365, is being launched as the first free mobile telecare application for seniors. Through it, family members always know where their loved ones are, if they have arrived safely home or at their destination, or if a confused senior loved one may have wandered away. more
Early in June, the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors treated the residents of BayView to an ice cream social. The Ambassadors are the volunteer arm of the Chamber. Several times each year they participate via the Community Outreach program to benefit some segment of the community deserving of a little tender love and care. more
