Justin Tucker kicked a 54-yard field goal with 1:02 to play as Baltimore kept the Jacksonville Jaguars winless with a 19-17 win Sunday at EverBank Field.
“It was a tough hard, fought battle,” Jaguars Coach Gus Bradley said. “I know the problems. And I am the problem fixer.”
Tucker accounted for most of the Ravens’ offense with field goals of 43, 42 and 37 yards in the victory.
With the Ravens’ trailing 17-16, Brent Urban blocked a Jason Myers field goal that allowed Baltimore one last shot at victory. Myers had put the Jaguars up by one point minutes earlier on a 49-yarder.
Jaguars QB Blake Bortles threw two TDs but also three interceptions, the last one with 16 seconds to play in the game. Bortles finished 24 of 38 for 194 yards and rushed for 17 yards.
The boo birds came out after his first pick.
“If I went to somebody’s work and performed as bad as I did, I would boo them too,” Bortles said.
Neither team seemed to be able to take control of the game. The Jacksonville running back tandem of T.J. Yeldon and Chris Ivory combined for a total of 31 yards.
Baltimore QB Joe Flacco threw two interceptions but also ran for the team’s only TD on a seven-yard run. Flacco was 29 of 40 for 214 yards. Steve Smith caught eight passes for 87 yards for the Ravens. Baltimore had 84 yards on the ground mostly on the heels of Terrance West’s 45 yards.
Allen Robinson caught two touchdown passes of three and 11 yards from Bortles. Robinson had seven catches for 57 yards.
Defensively, rookie defensive end Yannick Ngakoue registered his second consecutive game with a sack-fumble when he brought down Flacco on second-and-three with 39 seconds remaining in the first half.
Ngakoue registered his first career sack last week at San Diego. Defensive tackle Malik Jackson also registered his first sack of the season and first sack with the Jaguars.
Linebacker Telvin Smith registered seven tackles against the Ravens. Smith extended his league-leading streak to 19 games with six-plus tackles and also eclipsed 250 career tackles.
Safety Tashaun Gipson registered his first interception with the club in the fourth quarter. Linebacker Paul Posluszny registered his 15th career interception when he intercepted Flacco with less than five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Jacksonville Jaguars defense forced a three-and-out on Baltimore’s first offensive possession, marking the first time this season and the first time since Week 13 of the 2015 season at Tennessee that Jacksonville’s defense has forced a three-and-out on their opponent’s first offensive possession.
The Jaguars defense also forced a three-and-out on the Ravens’ second offensive possession, marking the first time since Week 8 of the 2014 season against Miami that the Jaguars defense forced three-and-outs on two consecutive possessions to begin a game.
Jacksonville is now 0-3 and will play the Indianapolis Colts next Sunday in London. The Ravens improved to 3-0.
