Kids bring cheer with Christmas trees

Many Ponte Vedra kids have been hard at work this season, decorating and delivering miniature Christmas trees to bring some cheer to youngsters at Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville.

Girl Scout Troop 843 led the effort, decorating and donating a dozen Christmas Trees on Dec. 3.

“The girls put a lot of thought into how their tree was decorated, and spent one afternoon making them beautiful,” said Girl Scout volunteer Stephanie Augusta. They then drove to the Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital on Thursday Dec. 3 after school and were able to deliver the trees to the staff to brighten the children’s rooms.

Another group, Kids Volunteer Network (KVN), also gathered this month to create and donate trees. Close to 30 children, all members of KVN, met one Saturday afternoon at the Ponte Vedra Beach library, where they decorated 30 trees. The trees were then delivered at the same time, on Dec. 3.

“We’re hoping the trees bring much joy to the rooms of the patients at the hospital during this time of year,” said Augusta.

KVN is an organization which provides kids (usually ages 4 through 12) the opportunity to give back to those who need it most. The group encourages philanthropy through various monthly activities, all for the benefit of those in need in our community.
