Nease Navy JROTC’s varsity drill team dominated in Personnel Inspection, Academics, Athletics and Drill to take home the championship at the Mandarin High School NJROTC sanctioned drill meet Nov. 19, beating out 11 other NJROTC units from Northern Florida and Georgia.

With the victory, Nease NJROTC has secured its slot in the Area 12 Drill Championships to be held in Douglas, Georgia on March 4, 2017, when they will defend their title as two-time defending Area-12 Drill Champions.

In addition to claiming the overall trophy, Nease picked up first place trophies for Personnel Inspection, Academics, Overall Athletics, Overall Drill, Armed Basic Drill, Armed Exhibition Drill, Unarmed Basic Drill, Push Ups, and Sit Ups. The team also placed second in the 8 x 220 Relay and Unarmed Exhibition Drill.

“There’s no better feeling than being called up to receive a first place trophy in front of your fellow competitors,” said Cadet Scott Cummings, a member of the Academics, Armed Basic and Armed Exhibition Drill teams. “We’ve worked hard, but we have a long way to go if we hope to win the area championship.”

Nease has now won the Mandarin Sanctioned Drill Meet four consecutive years.

“We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to perform at the highest level,” said Cadet Battalion Commander Ryan Berry. “Our goal is to compete for a national title this year.”

Other top schools in the competition were South Effingham High School, which took second place; Terry Parker High School (third place); Lassiter High School (fourth place); and Coffee County High School (fifth place).
