SJSO to hold ‘active shooter seminars’ Aug. 17 and 25

Posted

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office will hold two free, active shooter training seminars Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and Thursday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. at Fruit Cove Baptist Church.

These seminars will provide St. Johns County residents and visitors with tips on what to do in the event they encounter an active shooting situation. In addition, the sheriff’s office has made an active shooter response flyer available on its website at http://www.sjso.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/active-shooter-poster.pdf.

The Aug. 17 seminar will be the third active shooter seminar the sheriff’s office has offered in recent months. The first session, held May 23 at Valley Ridge Academy in Nocatee, occurred just a few weeks before the June 12 shooting in Orlando, in which 49 people were killed.

These seminars are free and open to the public and are available for people of all ages, however, the SJSO asks parents to use their best judgement as some of the videos and information could be upsetting to young children.

Pre-registration is not required, but attendees can “RSVP” on the SJSO Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/StJohnsSheriffOffice/

The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall is located at 1050 A1A N., Ponte Vedra Beach. Fruit Cove Baptist Church is located at 501 State Road 13, Saint Johns.

For more information on these seminars or requests to host one, email Sgt. Jim Priester at jpriester@sjso.org.
