Beaches area Rotary groups partner for third annual Beaches Health Jam

Posted

Organized by local Rotary clubs, the third annual Beaches Health Jam event is taking place Friday, Aug. 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carver Center in Jacksonville Beach.

Founded in 2016 by the Rotary Club of Jacksonville-Oceanside, the event brings together area health and healthy lifestyle organizations for an afternoon of fun. Other Rotary clubs involved in leading the event include the Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach Sunset, the Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra and the Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach. The University of North Florida and Town Center Rotaract clubs, as well as the Interact Club from Fletcher High School, are also involved.

Other participating organizations include BEAM Mobile Food Distribution, St. Andrews AME Church, Beaches Resource Center, Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Will-Line Dancers for Health, Ponte Vedra YMCA, Tai Chi for Health & Wellness, Shakin’ It Up With Shay, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Keiser University PTA Program, Keiser University, The Salvation Army, Cardio Sumo, Pilates for Buff Bones, Bailey’s Health & Fitness, Wahby Financial Group, LLC, Sulzbacher Beaches Clinic, Hope Adult Daycare and Nova Southeastern University.

“Now that we are in our third year, both the participating organizations and the Beaches community look forward to the event” 2018 Event Chair Guzman Castro said. “New this year, the event will be held on Friday afternoon instead of Saturday. Organizers hope this move will lessen conflict with Saturday events, including Back to School with BEAM.”

One of the main goals behind creating Beaches Health Jam was to bring the St. Vincent’s Mobile Health Unit to the beach.

“Rotary Clubs across our area worked hard to fund the Health Unit, and it is great to see them working together for an event that features it, along with dozens of other great health-related organizations,” said Michael Phillips, president of the Rotary Club of Jacksonville-Oceanside.

The free event is open to all ages, but several activities will be geared toward getting kids active, including a bouncy obstacle course, a kickball tournament and other games and activities led by the Rotaract and Interact clubs.
