Baptist Beaches staff receive annual nursing scholarships

Two staff members at Baptist Beaches Medical Center are the recipients of the third annual Mildred Caldwell O’Neal Baptist Beaches Nursing Scholarship.

Chief Nursing Officer Sean Lynch and Certified Nursing Assistant Alexandria Fogarty each received $1,250 to apply toward education expenses. Lynch is completing his doctoral degree in nursing at Jacksonville University, while Fogarty is attending Florida State College at Jacksonville and will graduate in May with her BSN degree.

The scholarship was created by the children of Mildred O’Neal to honor their mother, a nurse at Baptist Beaches for 18 years. In the 1980s, O’Neal was appointed by then-Governor Bob Graham to head the formation of a nursing program at area colleges. She also served on the State Board of Nursing.

“There is no better way to honor my mother than by helping aspiring nurses to reach their dreams,” said Nanci Faulkner, O’Neal’s daughter.
