Carol Quatrano and Jeni Strain’s fifth-grade students at the Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus participated in a speech competition this week to practice public speaking skills in front of their peers, and a panel of judges.

Students researched and prepared material for their speeches and have been practicing them during the past few weeks. On May 23, each student took turns approaching the podium in Ponte Vedra Hall to share their presentations. Judges considered many factors when assessing the speeches, including volume, speed, speech construction and audience engagement.

After much deliberation, the judges selected the following students for their presentations:

First place: Taylor Grace Clark, “Cancer”

Second place: Isabella Lee, “Positivity”

Third place: Kylie Morton, “The Body Language of Lying”
