Coastal Wine Market & Tasting Room hosted another installment of its “Meet The Winemaker” series on July 10 with Michael Honig, owner and winemaker of Honig Vineyard & Winery in Napa County, California.

Honig took event attendees on a tour of his sauvignon blancs and cabernet sauvignons, including his Late Harvest sauvignon blanc. The event featured complimentary tastings and allowed patrons to participate in a raffle for one of Honig’s bottles of wine.

According to the Honig Vineyard & Winery website, Honig took over his struggling family business at the age of 22 and transformed it into a success. A leader in sustainable farming, he chaired the first California initiative to develop a "Code of Sustainable Winegrowing Practices," a voluntary program establishing statewide guidelines for sustainable farming and winemaking. In 2005, he took part in a pilot program to help train yellow lab puppies to detect vine mealy bugs in the vineyard, thus, lowering the need for pesticides. He resides on the Honig property in Rutherford, with wife Stephanie, daughters Sophia and Lola, sons Sebastian and Santiago, and their dogs Raisin, Hunter and Popeye.
