Community Hospice of Northeast Florida has changed its name to Community Hospice & Palliative Care – a move the organization said reflects its expanding services and programs.

Since 1979, Community Hospice has provided services to Northeast Florida’s five-county area. In February, the state Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) awarded Community Hospice a certificate of need enabling the organization to provide hospice services in an 11-county area in north and north-central Florida that includes Gainesville, Palatka and Lake City.

The name change is also accompanied by a new logo featuring colors the organization said represent the four components that impact a person’s quality of life: physical, emotional, spiritual and social.

“It is important that our name reflect the growth of organization beyond solely providing hospice services, as well as our geographic expansion from serving five counties to a 16-county service area,” President and CEO Susan Ponder-Stansel said. “The refreshed name honors the unique value and heritage that ‘Community’ has within our organization, and aligns our growing palliative care services with our hospice care, since both are designed to provide comfort and support to those facing serious and life-limiting illnesses.”

Despite the name change and expanded service area, the organization’s leaders stress that it will continue to provide the same high level of hospice and palliative care as well as education, advance care planning, grief support and bereavement services as well as its Community PedsCare® pediatric palliative care and hospice program.
