Cypress Village celebrates National Senior Health & Fitness Day

Residents of Brookdale Cypress Village recently participated in National Senior Health & Fitness Day, joining an estimated 100,000 seniors nationwide in special events and activities aimed at helping them stay healthy and active while having fun.

Events at Cypress Village included a variety of group exercise demonstrations, a 1K/1mile walking event and other interactive activities and games. One of the most popular events was the introduction of a new combination exercise and yoga class known as “Sky Styx.” In the “Sky Styx” class, exercises are performed while holding onto a long, lightweight wooden pole with rubber ends used for balance, stretching and more.

A health fair with physicians and other health care professionals, meanwhile, provided information about relevant health topics as well as health screenings.

“Our goals for National Senior Health and Fitness Day were to make exercise fun, to increase awareness of the benefits of a regular exercise program, and to encourage all older adults to take advantage of the many health and fitness programs offered in our community,” said Meredith Lord, health and wellness director for Cypress Village.
