Cypress Village recently hosted a benefit putting tournament on Friday, May 4 on the Cypress Green to celebrate springtime and the opening of THE PLAYERS Championship. The event raised $1,000 for the Cypress Village scholarship fund to assist youth in Jacksonville.
The event saw 47-50 participating putters and over 100 spectators enjoy the tournament. Prizes were awarded for highest (worst) overall score, closest to the pin, lowest ladies score, lowest men's score, best dressed man, best dressed woman and most holes in one. Additionally, residents were offered an opportunity to mix and mingle and enjoy a day outdoors with friends and family.
Bill Holder, the founder and chair of CV Putters and the primary influence for the tournament, moved to Cypress Village with wife Caroline in August 2017. The Holders moved directly before Hurricane Harvey and quickly got involved with clubs and groups at their new home. To set up the tournament, Bill reached out to Director of Resident Programs Katie Amador and hosted a booth at an activities fair last fall to gage interest in a putting group. With an initial interest of 30 teams, the first meeting of the Cypress Village Putters group took place on Feb. 9 and 15 residents with varying skill attended.
CV Putters meets every Friday at Cypress Village. The group is open to everyone looking to enjoy the outdoors and utilize the putting facility.
