Florida Heritage Book Festival and Writers Conference to be held Sept. 13-15

The 11th annual Florida Heritage Book Festival and Writers Conference is taking place Sept. 13-15 in St. Augustine.

Each year, the Florida Heritage Book Festival showcases Florida’s rich and diverse literary legacy, welcoming writers and enthusiasts to the Ancient City. This year, there will be events honoring a large slate of writers, with the opportunity to work with some of them at an intimate level.

The schedule of the three-day event is as follows:

·       The festivities begin Thursday, Sept. 13, with “How to Turn Your Idea Into a Novel,” with young adult author Janice Hardy. To be held at the Renaissance World Golf Village Resort from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., this hands-on workshop will guide you through the novel-planning process and help you find the plot and story within your idea. Hardy is the award-winning author of “The Healing Wars” trilogy, the “Grace Harper” series and multiple books on writing. She is also the founder of Fiction University, a site dedicated to helping writers improve their craft. $80 includes lunch and the “Plotting Your Novel Workbook.”

·       The events continue Friday, Sept. 14 at the Renaissance World Golf Village from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with the following seven writers sharing various tips and stories during the Writer’s Workshop:

o   “Story, Story, Story: Creating Compelling Narrative Structure” with Laura Lee Smith

o   “Stories About Some Interesting Floridians” with Florida Book Award winning author Jeff Klinkenberg

o   Luncheon Keynote address "Enjoy the Ride: How to Stay Organized & Productive Without Forgetting the Fun Factor" with Robert Macomber, who has won the top regional, state and national literary awards in his genre of historical literary fiction

o   “Dialogue: It Isn’t Just About Talk” with Rod Martinez

o   "Agents, Editors & Publishers: What You Can Do To Increase Your Chances” with James O. Born

o   “Ten Things Writers Need to Know About Being Noticed and Marketing” with Taylor and Seale Publishing representative Mary Custureri

o   “Adaptation: From Book to Screenplay” with award-winning screenwriter Allan Marcil and Sohrab Homi Fracis, author of “Go Home”

·       On Friday evening, the annual Literary Legend Reception will take place, recognizing bestselling author Tim Dorsey. The reception also gives all attendees a chance to mingle with the Festival writers.

·       On Saturday, Sept. 15, the free Florida Heritage Book Festival will offer presentations by 20 featured authors highlighting Florida's rich and diverse literary culture. The Festival Marketplace will include the official bookseller, Flagler College Bookstore, plus over 30 vendors of books and book-related materials, and book-signings. All activities take place in and around Flagler College's Ringhaver Student Center. Old Town Trolley will provide free transportation from the City Parking Garage to the Ringhaver Center.
