The Lightner Museum in Downtown St. Augustine opened its doors to flappers, mob bosses and others from the Roaring 20s on April 28, when Volkswagen of St. Augustine hosted its fifth annual Gatsby-inspired charity event.

Over 500 guests attended the occasion, which featured a theme of “Gatsby’s Lost Generation” and raised over $25,000 for the St. Johns Cultural Council (SJCC).” Themed characters such as Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, Josephine Baker and Jay Gatsby himself joined the festivities, wearing costumed designed by Volkswagen of St. Augustine co-owner Sway DiFeo. Live music was provided by local musicians Amy Hendrickson, Chelsea Saddler and Mama Blue. Even Volkswagen of St. Augustine’s General Manager, Joe DiFeo, joined in by playing piano.

The event featured a blackjack table, candy bar station and a 1929 Willys-Knight Deluxe Roadster and a 1930 Lincoln Deluxe Roadster on display. The Lightner Museum also kept a wing of the museum open for guests to discover some of its ancient artifacts. In addition to a champagne “bubbly bar,” craft cocktails and moonshine infused in mason jars, all craft beers were provided by Ancient City Brewing Company. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres were also provided throughout the night by Café Alcazar.

Since opening its doors in December of 2013, Volkswagen of St. Augustine has contributed over $200,000 to local charities and continues to allocate an annual budget for community support and sponsorships.
