The Jacksonville Symphony’s string section will perform at the University of North Florida’s Lazzara Performance Hall on Friday, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m.
The concert will be conducted by Jacksonville Symphony Assistant Conductor and JSYO Principal Conductor Deanna Tham. The concert is a special program featuring the Symphony’s string section without the rest of the orchestra.
The concert will feature the string section of the Jacksonville Symphony: violin, viola, cello and bass. The ensemble will play parts of Henry Purcell’s The Fairy Queen as well as a selection of pieces by Astor Piazzolla. Known for his revolution of the tradition tango, Piazzolla’s heavy jazz and tango influence can be heard throughout the works to be performed. The concert will end with Antonin Dvorak’s “Serenade” in E major for string orchestra, a well-known work that can be heard in the 1996 movie “Jumanji”, the TV show “Gotham” and the hit drama-comedy “Mozart in the Jungle.”
Also, the Jacksonville Symphony will be bringing in seven candidates to perform with the Symphony during the season in its search for a new concertmaster. For this concert, Julia Noone will take the stage with Tham and the Jacksonville Symphony string orchestra.
A native of Worcester, Massachusetts, Noone currently serves as the assistant concertmaster for the Louisville Orchestra. Noone has recently performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and as a guest associate principal with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
