Local artist to debut new series at St. Augustine gallery June 26

Local artist Jenna Alexander recently announced the unveiling of her latest art series, The Flower Map of the United States, with an opening from 6 to 10 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, at Gray 1908, 73 Marco Ave. in St. Augustine.

“The inspiration behind this series comes from my children,” Alexander said. “My husband is a teacher, so every summer we have a few months off where we travel with our kids and introduce them to new experiences and places. On our last road trip to Maine, my son became obsessed with looking at the map. I thought, ‘How fun and meaningful it would be to create a map out of all of the state flowers.”

From peony and prairie rose to poppy and pine, Alexander’s The Flower Map of the United States is a whimsical, botanical-inspired look at the 50 unique states that make up America.

Take Florida for example. Fittingly, the orange blossom, a fragrant, white flower, was chosen as the Sunshine State’s official bloom back in 1909. Fans from many states follow the artist on social media, and Alexander hoped that by creating this map, she would also be creating a closer online community.

Posters, limited edition prints and originals of The Flower Map of the United States will be released online at jenna-alexander.com on Friday, June 21.

Juniper Market will offer special orange blossom-themed bites and beverages and Feather + Bloom will be on site at the June 26 showing selling flower bunches from their vintage 1954 GMC 100 flower truck.
