The first 18-hole golf course to be built in St. Johns County in more than a decade will serve as the hallmark of a new 55+ community located between Longleaf Pine Parkway and Greenbriar Road (County Road 210). The Northeast Florida division of Lennar Corporation has selected renowned TPC golf course architect Bobby Weed Golf Design for the new golf course.
The new development by Lennar will include at least 500 single-family, attached and detached homes. Designed specifically for an active lifestyle, gated community will include a pro shop, club facilities and an on-site restaurant in addition to the golf course.
“Today’s 55+ is not the same as it was 20 years ago. People over 55 today are more active and social, and want to remain that way for longer. Our vision is to design a community just for them,” said Matt Devereaux, division president for Lennar in North Florida. “Bobby Weed has more than 35 years of design experience, and we are thrilled to have his expertise on this project to make our vision a reality.”
Bobby Weed Golf Design, headquartered in Ponte Vedra Beach, specializes in contemporary, progressive golf course design. Weed has designed more than 50 projects, including many of today’s best known TPC venues and the recently-completed GROVE XXIII, an exclusive, members-only private club in Hobe Sounds, Florida, of which NBA legend and avid golfer Michael Jordan is the majority partner.
“We share Lennar’s vision of designing a golf community that is forward-thinking for more active and discerning residents,” said Bobby Weed. “We have in mind an interesting layout that has loops of three, six and nine holes returning to the clubhouse, allowing members to play as their time permits.
“We intend to incorporate the native on-site vegetation with swaths of shell-sand for visual contrast while relying on clustered sod-wall bunkers for strategic interest.”
