“Oh, What Fun!” brings holiday cheer to Sawgrass Village

The Ponte Vedra Women’s Club and Sawgrass Village Shopping Center hosted “Oh, What Fun!” Dec. 7, a holiday celebration for family and friends in the community.

Sawgrass shoppers could hear the resurrecting sounds of Mariah Carey’s holiday hit while driving along Village Main and Front Street. Arts and crafts, snacks and cocoa stands greeted guests outside each shop while they walked the village, shopping and deciding where to go next.

“We just arrived,” said Sarah Popovich, who stopped for a holiday snack with her young sons, Dylan and Ben. “We’re really excited for the balloons today.”

Across the street, children’s faces were being painted into winter wonderlands and “holiday trivia” amped up those who knew how to say “Merry Christmas” in Spanish. Santa Claus was there too, enjoying the not-so-chilly weather in Village Green.

“It’s really nice to see people coming together for a good time and a good cause,” said Megan Stinchcomb, from the PVWC. “We have a live auction with items donated by stores in Sawgrass Village and we’re also doing a stocking stuffer, visits with Santa and sleigh rides.”

Proceeds from the auction will go to Mission House, funding first month’s rent for the homeless; Hugs Across the County, empowering middle school girls in poverty in St. Johns County; the Betty Griffin Center, funding months of its Rape Crisis Unit and the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, to fund its annual Safety Day.
