Building on an elite group of world-class teachers and services, the new PGA Tour’s Performance Center at TPC Sawgrass welcomes Mike Shannon as its lead putting instructor.

A PGA professional with more than 35 years of experience, Shannon makes the move to Florida’s First Coast after serving nearly 15 years with Sea Island Company. He developed his niche for instruction under the tutelage of Claude Harmon at Houston Country Club. In 1992, Shannon invented the Laser Optics Putting System that is used by countless professionals to this day.

“I’m excited to embark on a new journey in the PGA Tour’s backyard at TPC Sawgrass,” Shannon said. “Todd Anderson and I have worked together for quite some time and have known each other even longer. We look forward to using that synergy to help aspiring golfers take their games to the next level.”

Since Shannon’s career began at Augusta National Golf Club as an assistant golf professional, he’s been heavily decorated as one of the industry’s best, receiving prestigious recognitions such as: three-time PGA of America Section Teacher of the Year; GOLF magazine Innovative Teacher of the Year; GOLF magazine Top 100 Teacher for the past 13 years; and Golf Digest Top 50 Greatest Teachers from 2010-2017.

Shannon has worked with more than 150 Tour players, including his current roster of Graeme McDowell and Matt Kuchar of the PGA Tour, as well as the LPGA’s Amelia Lewis and Cheyenne Woods.

The addition of Shannon comes on the heels of a highly successful start to the 2018 golf season. So far this year, Performance Center students working with Anderson have excelled in tournament play, including Patton Kizzire, who’s currently ranked No. 2 in the FedExCup standings.
