Ponte Vedra man accused of physically abusing an infant

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) arrested 48-year-old Kenneth James Schwartz, a resident of Nocatee’s Siena neighborhood in Ponte Vedra, Saturday, March 31, on allegations of physically abusing a 3-month-old baby.

JSO, according to the arrest report, received a call from staff at Wolfson Children’s Hospital that day regarding suspicious injuries to a child and dispatched an officer to investigate. After arriving at the hospital, the officer was informed by medical personnel that the 3-month-old victim had needed emergency surgery due to injuries sustained from physical trauma, which included bleeding and swelling to the brain, as well as respiratory distress that resulted in the full intubation of the baby.

After further information and evidence had been collected, Schwartz – whose relationship to the child has been redacted from the report – agreed to be transported to JSO for an interview. During that interview, Schwartz declined to speak without his lawyer present and was subsequently arrested on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated child abuse resulting in serious injury. He was released April 4 after posting $100,003 bail.
