Ponte Vedra High School golfer Stewart Slayden finished tied for second place in the Florida State Golf Association Boys’ Junior Amateur Championship for the ages 16-18 division last weekend at Streamsong Resort in Bowling Green.

Justin Ross, of Boca Raton, won the tournament by one stroke. Ross began the final round three shots off the lead, but birdied four of the first six holes. Ross finished the final round with a tournament low 6-under 66 to move into first place, tied with Slayden who had two holes left. Slayden, who will be a senior this year, recorded a bogey-free front nine with two birdies in the final round and birdied the 16th hole. But, after a weather delay, Slayden three-putted to bogey the final hole giving Ross the victory.

Slayden finished the tournament with a 6-under 210 to tie Jonah Leach, of Windermere, for second place.

Fellow Ponte Vedra High School golfer Sara McKevitt finished tied for 11th in the FSGA Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship last weekend at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto.
