Many people from the Ponte Vedra Beach community helped the Ponte Vedra Recorder celebrate its 50th anniversary with a Cheers to 50 Years party Oct. 23. Held in conjunction with the Ponte Vedra Beach Division’s Chamber After Hours event, state and local officials, staff and former staff, advertisers and longtime area residents celebrated the longevity of the paper and its place in the community.

“The turnout for the party really showed how people feel about the Recorder, and why it has been successful for 50 years,” said Hugh Osteen, Florida market manager of OPC News, LLC. “Many advertisers, former employees and residents came out to wish us well and congratulate the team. We appreciate the support and look forward to continuing to serve the community.”

Publisher Susan Griffin agreed. “Our Big Cheers to 50 Years shindig was the place to be with the movers and shakers in our community there in support," she said. “I really appreciate the support of our many advertisers and loyal readers and the Recorder staff for their hard work and dedication to bringing you the best community paper in Florida.”

Guests were greeted by a huge balloon sculpture in the shape of the number “50,” then walked a red carpet to be photographed. Wine and other beverages were served under the tent as well as a few tasty bites. Inside, guests helped themselves to a full spread of a variety of culinary delights from local restaurateurs, topped off by sweet, monster-themed cupcakes. Chase Rideman of Chillula provided music.

“It was wonderful to see the outpouring of support and admiration the public holds towards the Recorder and the importance it means to them in their daily lives,” said Parks Rogers, regional director of OPC News, LLC.

“We are so proud of Publisher Susan Griffin and her entire team at the Ponte Vedra Recorder,” Graham Osteen, a co-owner of the newspaper, said. “The 50th anniversary party was a big success, and those who attended made it a point to say how much they love and appreciate their local community newspaper.”
