A dozen men serve on a jury to decide the fate of a Puerto Rican teenager accused of murdering his abusive father. The jury must return a unanimous verdict. Only one juror thinks the boy might be innocent. Curious what happens?

The iconic courtroom drama Twelve Angry Men, which debuted in 1955 and has received numerous tributes and accolades, is now showing at Theatre Jacksonville, ushering in the theater’s 100th anniversary season. The show runs through Sept. 29 as this year’s Theatre Jacksonville Classic in San Marco. Tickets are deeply discounted at $22 for general public and $12 for students.

“This play is an excellent offering to kick off our 100th anniversary season because it appeals to a wide audience,” said Theatre Jacksonville Executive Director Sarah Boone. “The story was adapted from an Emmy award-winning television movie, and it has a number of timeless themes – including the presumption of guilt, race relations and criminal justice. We cannot think of a better way to introduce our exciting 100th anniversary season than featuring this classic drama.”

Subscriptions for the 100th anniversary season are $110 for a regular adult, with a family package priced at $270 for two adults and one child. Seniors, students and military subscriptions are $95. In addition to $16 discount tickets for Twelve Angry Men, subscription packages include MainStage season productions:

·         Something Rotten – A musical comedy, set in the 1590s, about two playwrights stuck in the shadow of “The Bard,” that has received several Best Musical nominations.

·         Shadowlands – A West End and Broadway hit, named Best New Play in 1990, telling the love story of C.S. Lewis and American poet Joy Davidman.

·         Love Quest – A clever romantic comedy about the journey of two women into online dating.

·         Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner – A comedy of manners based on the acclaimed screenplay made famous by Spencer Tracy, Sydney Poitier and Katherine Hepburn.

·         Matilda – A captivating musical masterpiece from the Royal Shakespeare Company based on the bestselling Roald Dahl children’s book.

“We are very grateful to Delegal & Poindexter, P.A., for being the Title sponsor for our production of Twelve Angry Men,” said Boone. “Title sponsorships are a great way to get a company’s name in front of our more than 20,000 audience members each year, and you have the added benefit of knowing you are making a difference for our wide-reaching educational programming for children and youth. We have also had a number of area restaurants and businesses sponsor our show tickets, which is a great way to encourage audience members to patronize an establishment before or after a show.”

Theatre Jacksonville is also embarking on a 100th Anniversary Endowment Campaign, which will form a nest egg to ensure secure future theater operations. The fund has already exceeded $600,000, which includes a matching gift from the Weaver Family Foundation. The goal is to reach $1 million by the end of 2019.
