Two people shot at Mission House, suspect in custody

The Jacksonville Beach Police Department is investigating the shooting of two people at The Mission House in the 800 block of Shetter Avenue.

The shooting with injuries was reported to 911 around 10:50 a.m. Friday, according to Sgt. Thomas Crumley of the Jacksonville Police Department. After interviewing multiple witnesses on the scene, officers apprehended a suspect approximately two blocks away, and he was taken into custody without incident, Crumley said in a statement. The suspect’s name has not been released.

According to Crumley, the victims were transported to Memorial Hospital, but their condition is unknown. More details will be released as they become available.

The Mission House is a nonprofit organization that provides food, clothing, medical care and support services to help the Beaches-area homeless. It has been serving the Beaches’ homeless at the Shetter Avenue location since 1997.
