K9s For Warriors hosted a remembrance ceremony Tuesday at Camp K9 in Ponte Vedra in honor of the nearly 3,000 victims of the terrorist attacks that shook the world on Sept. 11, 2001.
Held at 8:46 a.m., the ceremony took place at the exact time American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
“This morning we remember and honor all the lives that were lost at Ground Zero, all of the lives that were lost at the Pentagon,” K9s For Warriors CEO Rory Diamond said. “We remember and honor the passengers and crew of Flight 93, who were the very first to start fighting back that morning. We remember all the first responders who ran into burning buildings to save lives, many of whom would never come out, and we remember the millions of American men and women who serve and served in our armed forces and fought two wars so an attack like that would never happen on American soil again.
“Many of those men and women were deployed; many of them would never come home,” Diamond continued. “Here at K9s For Warriors, where we are dedicated and serve our lives to help the heroes of those wars recover from wounds of those wars, we say with conviction this morning: We will never forget.”
Diamond’s remarks were followed by the lowering of the American flag to half-staff and a moment of silence to honor the fallen. “Taps” was then played to close out the ceremony, after which staff prepared gifts for deployed troops.
