Volunteers in Medicine appoints Jennifer Ryan as new CEO

The Volunteers in Medicine Board of Directors recently announced the appointment of Jennifer Ryan as its new CEO following the retirement of former CEO Mary Pat Corrigan.

In the role of chief executive officer, Ryan is responsible for providing leadership for the organization’s medical operations, program development, staff and volunteer management and fundraising. Ryan most recently served as the executive director of the Ponte Vedra YMCA — a branch of the First Coast YMCA — where she directed strategic planning efforts and fundraising campaigns and strengthened relationships for community development and collaboration. Previously, she held positions with the Centers for Disease Control, Duval County Health Department and Northeast Florida Healthy Start Coalition.

“Jennifer brings to Volunteers in Medicine all the attributes you could ask for in the organization's next president and CEO," Board of Directors Chari Michael Boylan said. "A wealth of experience in the health service industry, boundless energy and — like her predecessor — a great passion for the mission. We are at a critical moment in the growth of the organization as we implement our strategy to expand access for the low-income working uninsured.”

Volunteers in Medicine is a full-service nonprofit clinic providing free medical services and programs to working uninsured individuals and families. Boylan also touched on the retirement of Corrigan.

"The board and staff of Volunteers in Medicine as well as the patients we have served are greatly indebted to Mary Pat Corrigan for her incomparable leadership these past five years,” Boylan said. “All have benefited from her dedication, tenacious effort and passion for the mission. It's been an honor for me and those involved, staff and volunteers alike, to work alongside her."

Corrigan said she felt lucky to serve in the role and is excited for Ryan’s tenure.

“It has been a privilege to serve with our tremendous staff and volunteers who care deeply about providing healthcare to our hardworking community members," Corrigan said. "I am looking forward to Jennifer’s leadership in continuing to build both our patient and fundraising capacity.”

Ryan’s first day on the job was Monday, Oct. 1.
