Westminster Woods on Julington Creek was alive with the sounds of music by Julie Andrews recently as cabaret singer, Shana Farr, entertained over 200 residents and staff performing many of Andrews’ most well-known songs.
The event, held in the River Lounge overlooking Julington Creek, included tunes such as “The Sound of Music,” “I Could Have Danced All Night, “In My Own Little Corner,” “My Favorite Things,” “A Spoonful of Sugar” and one of Andrews’ greatest hits, tongue twister “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
Prior to the event, a donor reception was held in the auditorium as guests had the opportunity to meet and greet Farr and her accompanist, Angel de Armendi, and have their pictures taken with the artist.
“Music is the language of the soul,” said longtime resident Lloyd Umbarger. “My wife Sarah and I enjoyed the concert very much and are looking forward to future performances.”
The concert is the first of many events hosted by Westminster Woods on Julington Creek’s Cultural Endowment Committee and the Westminster Retirement Communities Foundation.
“The Cultural Endowment program at Westminster Woods provides opportunities for our residents, no longer able to do so, to attend top tier performances of the arts,” said Amanda Birch, executive director. “Spouses who no longer live together because of care needs, are now able to enjoy each other’s company at an entertainment venue worthy of celebration.”
Westminster Communities of Florida is a faith-based, not-for-profit organization inspired by a mission of serving older adults. The organization has been touching lives through service since 1954, and to date has served more than 7,000 residents in 21 communities.
