Autumn brings fun events to the area

Fall is just around the corner, and lots of great events are coming to St. Johns County.

Sykes Family Farms’ annual Crop Maze & You Pick SunFlowers will be open Oct. 5-27. Admission to this local tradition includes a nine-acre crop maze, hayrides, duck races, farm animals and more.

At the Bike MS: PGA TOUR Cycle to the Shore, cyclists ride from TPC Sawgrass or Marineland south to a beachside celebration in Daytona on Oct. 5 and return to their starting point the following day. The event benefits the National MS Society.

Food, faith and history unite at the 26th Annual St. Augustine Greek Festival, Oct. 12-13 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. The festival features live music and dancing, traditional food and drink, arts and crafts, children’s activities, church tours and ecclesiastical services.

The 6th Annual Game On! Ponte Vedra Beach Triathlon will be held on Oct. 13 at Vilano Beach Oceanfront Park. Competitions include an Olympic-distance triathlon, duathlon, and aquabike, and sprint triathlon and duathlon. Athletes will swim in the Atlantic and cycle through Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve.

St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum will kick off its year-long 150th Anniversary Celebration Oct. 14-18. First lit in 1874, the lighthouse continues to be a beacon to mariners, offers educational experiences and is open daily for tours of the tower and museum.

Biketoberfest takes place in Daytona Oct. 17-20, and St. Augustine extends a welcome to bikers touring the area. The short ride north on A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway, designated motorcycle parking on the Plaza, sights and attractions and plenty of live entertainment provide an added experience for bikers coming here to celebrate October in Florida.

From Oct. 18 to 20, the St. Benedict the Moor Blues Festival returns with Southern delicacies and traditional and contemporary blues music daily.

On Oct. 19, the 65th Annual Cracker Day takes over the St. Johns County Fairgrounds, and the St. Johns County Cattleman’s Association allows visitors to experience the very best of cracker horsemanship and see authentic cracker cattle and horses, all of which are direct descendants of the original Spanish herds.

The Whiskey, Wine and Wildlife Festival goes wild on Vilano Beach Nov. 7-10 with creative libations, cuisine from the finest local chefs and interactive animal programs.

On Nov. 10, the 22nd Annual Ponte Vedra Auto Show will showcase more than 200 new and classic automobiles. Hosted in Nocatee, this event is open and free to spectators.

St. Augustine’s most highly anticipated event of the year kicks off on Nov. 23 with Light Up! Night, the official first evening of the Nights of Lights. Bursting with light from the sidewalks to the treetops, Nights of Lights takes place every evening from Nov. 23 to Jan. 26.
