COA Center at Flagler Health+ Village at Nocatee announces January schedule

The following programs will be held in January at COA Center at Flagler Health+ Village at Nocatee, 351 Town Plaza Ave., Suite 205, Ponte Vedra. Unless specified otherwise, register by email to pbrunell@stjohnscoa.com or by calling 904-814-9407. Classes are open to adults age 18 and older.

TUESDAYS

Caregiver Support Group: All caregivers are welcome. The group meets every Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. There is a trained facilitator present at every meeting to guide the group.

Savvy Caregiver Program: Develop strategies and master skills to help in your personal caregiving situation. Six, once-per-week sessions beginning Jan. 9 from 10 a.m. to noon; limited seating.  Pre-register with Northeast Florida AHEC 904-482-0189 or 1-877-784-8486.

Widows and Widowers: Social group meeting the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Register in advance for one or both Tuesdays.  

Travel Club: COA Travel Club meets to learn of future excursions. 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 9.

Bereavement Support: Ann Martel, MSW will lead a four-month, six-session group study offering education and guidance to people experiencing recent losses of loved ones. Advance registration before Jan. 10 is required. Classes meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon starting Jan. 16, then on Feb. 6 and 20, March 5 and 19, and April 2. Call for more information.

Health Care in Retirement: Financial planner Sean Bowles will discuss Medicare, average health care cost and how to manage these expenses. 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 16.

Community Butterflyscaping: Learn about host/nectar plants and where and how to plant. Class presented by Terra Freeman, horticulture extension agent from UF/IFAS. 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 30.

Open Art: Bring your art or craft project to work on while socializing with friends. Meets every Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Mah Jongg Meet-up: Open play for experienced players. 1-3 p.m. Jan. 3, 10, 24, 31; 3-5 p.m. Jan. 17.

Parkinson’s Meet, Greet & Learn: A monthly meeting for people living with Parkinson’s disease and/or their care partners. January’s speaker will be Jay Houser from Acorda Therapeutics discussing “Managing the Return of Parkinson’s Symptoms with a Unique Inhaled Treatment.” 3 to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 3. Always held the first Wednesday of the month.

Genealogy Group: A genealogy expert will guide you in discovering and finding your ancestors on the third Wednesday of each month. 1 to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 17.

What Happens If You Die Without a Will: This free lecture will cover important information that you need to know to protect yourself and your loved ones. Learn what happens when someone dies without a will and other important facts about wills in Florida. Presented by Megan Wall, managing attorney of the St. Johns County Legal Aid. 10 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 24.

Learn What the COA Has Available For You: Programs and services for adults. seniors and caregivers presented by Amy Robinson, COA development manager. 10-11 a.m. Jan. 31.
