The Council on Aging will honor St. Johns County centenarians and nonagenarians at its annual centenarian luncheons during the month of May.
A Ponte Vedra centenarian luncheon for seniors ages 90 and up will be held on May 16 beginning at 11:30 a.m. at THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center located at 175 Landrum Lane.
The COA invites any residents who are themselves or have a loved one that will be turning age 90 or better within the next year.
Anyone interested in attending can contact the COA to register to attend the Ponte Vedra Beach event by calling 904-209-3700.
This will not be the only centenarian luncheon by the COA, as another will be held in in the days earlier for residents in the St. Augustine area on May 9 and will get underway at noon at River House located at 179 Marine St.
Registering for the St. Augustine requires the same process as the luncheon held in Ponte Vedra. Advance registration is required as space is limited.
“We are asking for everyone’s help in inviting all of our cherished elders in the community who are eligible to attend,” COA executive director Becky Yanni said. “Council on Aging must rely upon members of the community to help us get the word out.”
Each honoree is invited to bring one complimentary guest to the luncheon. Tickets for additional guests may be purchased if space is available by once again contacting the COA.
“We are very excited to be able to host these special events,” Yanni said. “The entire community looks forward to the chance to recognize our St. Johns County elders and honor their exceptional lives.”
Sponsors are still needed to help finance the events. Table sponsorships are available for a donation of $250, and include table and social media recognition, as well as a seat to attend the centenarian luncheon of your choice.

The RSVP deadline for the Ponte Vedra event is May 1, while the deadline for the River House event is April 24.
