The Northeast Florida Sisters In Crime guest speaker for this month, Jason Futch, has made a big difference in the realm of cold cases.
Futch has been intrigued since childhood with true crime. His first exposure to realities of the unknown came when he was a criminal justice student at Florida Gateway College. When he heard about an unidentified torso found in 1994, he was able to uncover details never released to the public. His postings on Websleuths, coupled with a poster from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, enabled the victim’s family to finally find closure. The victim was identified and his killer arrested in 2017.
At the writers’ meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, learn why and how Futch established first a podcast called “True Cold Case Files,” then a Facebook page for Suwannee Valley Unsolved and then a database for local unsolved homicide and missing persons cases in the Suwannee Valley.
SVU is now a nonprofit charity which has contributed to cold case resolution through an interactive map, road signs and relationships with law enforcement and forensics personnel.
Bring your coffee and bring a friend to the meeting at Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library. The group welcomes misters and sisters to learn more about writing, promoting and enjoying crime fiction.
