Michael’s ‘Ohana recently presented B.R.A.V.E Bunnies for Morning Star School in partnership with Miss Sunshine State Elementary America 4th Grade Gianna Capri.

The event took place April 26 at Morning Star School in Jacksonville and was hosted by Gianna Capri, Michael Alberico’s niece. Morning Star School is the only special education school within the Diocese of St. Augustine. Gianna’s brother Anthony is in the 8th grade and will attend high school at Morning Star School next fall.

B.R.A.V.E: Building Respect and Values for Everyone is the official national platform and anti-bullying campaign of the Miss Elementary, Miss Jr. High, Miss High School and Miss Collegiate America organization. Mission: B.R.A.V.E. promotes building respect and values for everyone through classroom, library and community presentations to school-aged children and their parents to create awareness and to promote a bully-free and safe environment.

The goal is to reduce the effects of bullying and increase awareness of bullying in schools and communities.

Gianna will represent the State of Florida, Miss Sunshine State Elementary 4th Grade this summer at the Elementary National Pageant in Little Rock, Arkansas. She is currently in the third grade at St. Brendan’s Catholic School in Ormond Beach.

Gianna said she was looking forward to speaking to the students at Morning Star School about being B.R.A.V.E and having respect for everyone. Her Uncle Mike taught her being different is just that, different, and that's what makes us all unique.

Gianna passed out “B.R.A.V.E Bunnies” to every student at Morning Star School as a reminder to be kind to all.

The Michael’s ‘Ohana motto is “Be Someone’s Michael” — be kind, loving, respectful, funny, caring, sweet, full of joy and happiness, and always look out for those who may need a helping hand or just a friend.

The Miss Elementary America Pageant was created in 2019 as a division of the Miss High School America Pageant Organization. This scholarship pageant is for young ladies in grades pre-K to sixth grade. The purpose of the program is to introduce girls to the Miss High School America Organization who have an interest in community service and possibly someday competing in the Miss High School America National Pageants. Participants will build confidence, gain friendships from all over the United States and have the opportunity to compete on a large national stage.

Morning Star School is fully accredited by the Florida Catholic Conference. Its mission is rooted in the Gospel and strengthened by the sacraments. The school aims to provide a unique, inspiring education empowering students with learning differences to achieve their potential.

Michael’s ‘Ohana was founded in June of 2021 in memory of Michael Alberico. The organization partners with nonprofits raising funds and gift donations for those specifically with special needs.
