The Jacksonville Symphony Chorus will hold auditions for the 2018-2019 season Saturday, Aug. 18 in the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts at 300 Water St.
Auditions will consist of a 90-second sight-reading activity, establishment of range and singing an excerpt of “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place” (measures 85-123) from “Ein deutsches Requiem” by Johannes Brahms.
The Jacksonville Symphony Chorus rehearses weekly from September to May. This season, the chorus will join the symphony for:
• Debussy’s “Nocturnes” in “A French Fantasy,” Nov. 30 through Dec. 2
• “Holiday Pops,” Dec. 6-9
• Handel’s “Messiah,” Dec. 15-16
• “Amadeus Live,” film with orchestra, Jan. 18
• “Don Giovanni” (rehearsals begin in fall), Jan. 25-27
• Ravel’s “Daphnis et Chloé” in “Daphnis and Chloe” (rehearsals begin in fall), Feb. 15-16
• Verdi’s “Requiem,” March 15-16
The all-volunteer Jacksonville Symphony Chorus, under the direction of Donald McCullough, has been accompanying performances by the Jacksonville Symphony for more than three decades and includes many professional musicians, skilled amateur performers and college students on its roster. Some of the most recent performances by the chorus have included distinguished works such as “The Dream of Gerontius” and Handel’s “Messiah.”
