On Nov. 20, the Jacksonville Area Golf Association hosted its 20th JAGA Scholarship Golf Classic at Deerwood Country Club and raised $21,500.

The event’s success was assured by the renewed commitment of Nader’s Pest Raiders as a title sponsor and the addition of Circle K/South Atlantic Division in the same capacity, with a number of other companies and individuals providing support through various levels of sponsorship.

The proceeds will support JAGA’s 2023-24 Charitable Trust program, which annually awards scholarship support to Northeast Florida high school graduates seeking to further their education on the college or alternative level of higher education. JAGA currently supports 45 students with $2,500 renewable yearly grants or $10,000 over four years of school.

The current recipients represent 19 of the JAGA-member clubs and attend 23 different colleges in and outside the state of Florida. Since the trust was formed in 1974, JAGA has awarded approximately $2 million to approximately 400 deserving students.

Current JAGA scholars Jacob Davis of Florida Gulf Coast University and Chase Carroll of the University of North Florida were special guests and shared their JAGA scholarship experiences with the participants at the awards luncheon.

Both freshmen, Davis hopes to one day be in the golf course architect business, while Carroll is a member of the Osprey men’s golf team and has already qualified to play in tournaments.

The JAGA Charitable Trust is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and accepts contributions throughout the year. Those interested in supporting JAGA’s scholarship program may do so by sending a check to the “JAGA Charitable Trust” (130 Corridor Road, Unit 525, Jacksonville, FL 32004).
