Food pantry donations to receive match

The LJD Jewish Family & Community Services (JFCS) has launched its annual Match Challenge. Through Sept. 30, every dollar donated to the Max Block Food Pantry during this period will be matched by the Block Family, effectively doubling the impact of every contribution.

The need for food in the Jacksonville community has grown exponentially, with the Max Block Food Pantry serving almost 32,000 people last fiscal year — a significant increase from the 19,000 individuals served the year before. All monetary donations will be used to stock the pantry with essential food items for local residents in need.

In addition to the Match Challenge, JFCS has announced the expansion and renovation of the Max Block Food Pantry, set to be completed by early October. The pantry will double in size, allowing for more shelf space, increased refrigerator capacity, a new walk-in freezer and even a pet supply shelf.

“This expansion means we can reach even more of our neighbors, ensuring they have the support they desperately need,” said Donna O’Steen, JFCS food programs and volunteer specialist. “The newly expanded pantry will also supply food to our satellite pantries, making sure even more families have access to the help they deserve.”

While all monetary donations made through Sept. 30 will be matched, JFCS also welcomes donations of nonperishable food items. To donate to the challenge, go to JFCSJax.org.
