Here’s a look at what’s happening in January at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch of the St. Johns County Library System. The library is located at 101 Library Blvd., Ponte Vedra Beach.

Musicmakers Club

Jan. 3, 3-3:45 p.m.

Make your own musical instrument! Join Ms. Jane on the first Wednesday of every month to make a different musical instrument. This is recommended for children ages 5 and up.

Kids Earth Science Rocks: Layers of the Earth

Jan. 4, 4-4:45 p.m.

Jan. 6, 3-3:45 p.m.

Let’s learn together the layers of the Earth from the core to the crust. We will make a 3D model and discuss some of the things that make our Earth special. This is the first in the Earth Science Rocks series. Stay tuned for additional lessons each month. This program is for students in K-5th grade. No RSVP is required. Students will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Book Lovers Book Club: “The Reading List”

Jan. 5, 11 a.m. to noon

This month’s Book Lovers Book Club title is the St. Johns Reads selection, “The Reading List” by Sara Nisha Adams. “The Reading List” will open your mind to another reality. Aleisha finds a list of books in a book and decides to read them all. Be transported with her as each book shares its special magic.

Children ages 7 to 12 are invited to join Ms. Jane and Ms. Marcia of the St. Johns County Library System for some ukulele fun. Bring your own ukulele or check out one of ours for this introductory four-week program. Learn chords, songs, strumming patterns, ukulele fun facts and beginning improvisation. Teen Trivia Night

Jan. 10, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Ready to compete? Do you know your stuff? Teen trivia night is here! Join us for fun, snacks and a lot of laughs. First-, second- and third-place teams win prizes. This program is for students in grades 6-12 only. RSVP is not required to attend.

Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library’s Tech Volunteer David Ross is here to help. Please bring your device and your questions. Adult Movie Matinee: “Life of Pi”

Jan. 12, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Join us for “Life of Pi,” based on the best-selling novel by Yann Martel. A zookeeper's son is stranded at sea aboard a lifeboat with a zebra, an orangutan, a hyena and a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker.

Family Storytime

This will be an interactive storytime for children of all ages. Enjoy books, stories, music and more. No RSVP is required.

Kids LEGO Stem Adventures: Cave Car

Jan. 11, 4-4:45 p.m. and 5-5:45 p.m.

Jan. 13, 3-3:45 p.m.

Join us using LEGO Education SPIKE kits to make and try the program that creates a Cave Car.  This incorporates both building with the Legos and basic computer programming. Children are guided through the processes of building, testing, improving and upgrading their projects. The program is designed for children in grades 2-5. RSVP is not required. We will accept children on a first come, first served basis.

Adult Coloring Club

Jan. 16, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Join us for fun, laughter and creativity as we spend time coloring together. Supplies will be provided. Feel free to bring a snack.

Teen Craft: Make A Mandala Coaster

Jan. 17, 5:30 p.m.

Get creative by making a mosaic coaster. Each one will be an original. This program is for students in grades 6-12 only. RSVP is not required to attend.

Creative Kids: Painted Rocks

As we learn about the Earth, we want to decorate what nature has given us. Let’s paint rocks. This program is for elementary-school-age children (K-5). RSVP is not required.

Caregivers Of Adults Conversation Circle

Caregivers are invited to join us for this special St. Johns Reads program with Paulette Kozlowski, adult day health care and community care-giving manager for St. Johns County Council On Aging, as she shares valuable resources that will help your adult loved ones while also helping yourself. Art With Kasha: The Reading List Project

Join us to create a library of books art piece using oil pastels. This project is designed specifically for the St. Johns Reads program. Step-by-step instruction will be provided for those who have never used the material or are looking to develop their craft. When the work is complete, you’ll always have a shelf of books with you. Adult Movie Matinee: “To Kill A Mockingbird”

Jan. 26, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Join us for “To Kill a Mockingbird,” based on the bestselling novel by Harper Lee. Gregory Peck won a Best Actor Oscar as a widowed, morally upright lawyer defending a black man accused of raping a white woman in 1930s Alabama. Meanwhile, his two young children become involved in a mystery involving the town pariah.

Teen: LEGO Stem Beginning Robotics

Jan. 24, 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Our LEGO Education SPIKE Prime activities are designed to help students develop the abstract and critical thinking skills they need to solve complex problems. Activities relate directly back to students’ real-life questions and observations, building their confidence and preparing them for life beyond school. This program is for students in grades 6-12 only. RSVP is not required to attend.

Strategies For Enhancing Your Research Skills: Where Do I Start?

Are you looking to improve your research skills? Join us for this four-part series designed to help you feel more comfortable finding answers to your questions. How do you decide where to look? Learn when and why you might use Google, and when you might want to use an online library resource, a book, a journal or even Wikipedia to find your answer.
