St. Augustine Distillery has announced the release of its new Reserve Rum, available exclusively in the distillery's retail shop starting Saturday, July 20. This unique 100-proof spirit is a testament to the distillery's dedication to craftsmanship and innovation.
The Reserve Rum marks a significant milestone as not only the distillery’s first ultra-premium rum, but also the first rum crafted from concept to completion under the tenure of new production head, Richard deMontmollin.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this highly limited-edition rum is a blend of four-year-old rum, three-year-old “Queen’s Share” rum and rum aged for more than a year in a Spanish orange wine (Vino de Naranja) cask. The blend is further aged for an additional year in a cask that previously aged Cognac for 10 years, resulting in an explosive and layered rum expression.
“Our Reserve Rum is the culmination of years of dedication, experimentation and passion,” said deMontmollin, vice president of production at St. Augustine Distillery and the mind behind the spirit. “This release is a testament to our commitment to pushing the boundaries of rum making and delivering a truly unique and exceptional spirit.”
On the nose, the Reserve Rum reveals strong cane ethanol, ripe banana, Madagascar vanilla and earthy roots. The palate delivers a symphony of sweet orange, grassy notes, licorice, a hint of crisp mint and a creamy mouthfeel. The finish is marked by lingering cane sweetness and vanilla, with oak fading quickly.
The intricate process behind the Reserve Rum showcases St. Augustine Distillery's expertise in creating a diverse range of offerings from a single spirit type. This premium rum blends historic rum production processes with modern finishing techniques, using casks that previously housed Cognac, Madagascar vanilla beans, Orange Wine and the distillery's very own Florida Bourbon.
During the July 20 launch, the Reserve Rum will retail for $150 per bottle exclusively in the distillery’s gift shop, with a limited number of bottles available in this initial release. The gift shop is open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
