The St. Augustine Orchestra (SAO) will start off its 57th season with two performances of “Symphonic Triptych” Oct. 12-13.
According to the Orchestra, a triptych is a set of three associated musical, literary or artistic works intended to be appreciated together. Maestro Scott Gregg has chosen three European and Scandinavian composers of the Romantic and Victorian era, including Antonin Dvorak, Gioachino Rossini and Jean Sibelius. The orchestra will play Dvorak’s “Symphony No. 8 in G Major;” “Simiramide Overture” by Rossini and “Valse Triste” by Sibelius.
The Oct. 12 concert will be held at the Lightner Museum in St. Augustine at 8 p.m. The Oct. 13 afternoon concert is a first for the SAO, as it will be the orchestra’s first public performance in Nocatee — at Saint John Paul II Catholic Church — to reach other areas of St. Johns County.
Other new initiatives include the SAO joining forces with the St. Augustine Community Chorus to hold two joint concerts next spring and performing as part of the Romanza Festivale.
“We have a wonderfully rich arts culture in St. Augustine, and we are pleased to be one of the anchors of it and able to highlight the talented musicians that live in St. Augustine and surrounding areas,” said Mitch Kolesaire, chair of the SAO Board of Directors, who further noted that the orchestra has added three new players this year on flute, violin and percussion.
The SAO sold out most concerts in advance of their performances last season, so the public is encouraged to purchase tickets early. Tickets are $22 for adults, $12 for youth ages 11-17 and free for children 10 and under, and can be purchased at https://staugustineorchestra.ticketleap.com/.
