THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center schedule for July

The following programs will be held in July at COA’s THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center, 175 Landrum Lane, Ponte Vedra Beach. Most classes are four weeks long and begin July 2. If you have any questions, call the center at 904-209-3659. Note: The center will be closed on Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.

Lunch — Tuesdays: Noon to 1 p.m. Registration is required in advance and a $5-per-meal fee is required.

Duplicate Bridge: Four weeks starting Friday, July 5, from noon to 3 p.m. A $2-per-person fee is required per Friday.

Line Dancing Class: Instructor Will Oglesby teaches you many different line dances with a good selection of music. Open to all adults and experience levels. Five weeks starting Wednesday, July 3, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Fee required is $37.50 per month or $9 per class.

Tap Dance Class: Instructor Ginny Wirzbicki brings much experience to this style of dance and encourages all different levels of dance to learn. Four weeks starting Friday, July 5, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Fee required is $25 for the month or $6.25 per class.

Acrylic Painting: Five weeks starting Wednesday, July 3, from 9 a.m. to noon. The instructor is on summer hiatus until Sept. 11.

Caregiver Support Group (Free Program): 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3. The group is open to all adult caregivers; meets once a month, on the first Wednesday of each month. Register with the Alzheimer’s Association at 800-272-3900.

Chair Exercise — Tuesdays: Five weeks starting Tuesday, July 2, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.

Chair Exercise — Thursdays: Four weeks starting Thursday, July 11, from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m.

Tai Chi: Four weeks starting Thursday, July 11, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Canasta — Tuesdays: Five weeks starting Tuesday, July 2, from 10 a.m. to noon.  

Canasta — Thursdays: Four weeks starting Thursday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Mah Jongg — Fridays: Four weeks starting Friday, July 5, from 10 a.m. to noon. There are two game sets/mats and two 2024 cards that may be checked out at the front desk.

Mexican Train Dominoes: Five weeks starting Tuesday, July 2, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Ask a Nurse: Five weeks starting Tuesday, July 2, from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

Bingo — Tuesdays: Five weeks starting Tuesday, July 2, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Bingo — Thursdays: Four weeks starting Thursday, July 11, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Social Bridge: Five weeks starting Wednesday, July 3, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Board Game Playing: Rummikub, Scrabble and more! Five weeks starting Wednesday, July 3, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Wii Bowling: Four weeks starting Thursday, July 11, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Technical Help for phones and computers: Available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon.

Library: The Ponte Vedra Beach Branch of the St. John’s County Public Library System visits! Make a seasonal craft and learn about the programs your local library has to offer. 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 2.

COA Travel Club Meeting: Learn about upcoming trips planned by the COA Travel Club. The COA Travel Club for St. Johns County seniors was created in partnership with Bartimus Travel Group of St. Augustine. 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday July 9.

Community Hospice Presentation: The behavior of a person with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of advanced dementia presents many challenges. Repetition, wandering, incontinence and grooming are daily struggles for caregivers. Community Hospice’s Doug Schilling offers effective methods of dealing with difficult behaviors. 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 11.

Check Your Blood Pressure with Nurse Fran: 10-11 a.m. Thursday, July 11. Free.

Happy Birthday, July Babies! Enjoy cake, ice cream and the music of Ivan Smith while celebrating July birthdays. 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 16.

Queen Bee Honey & Tea: June Hill of Queen Bee Honey and Tea will be on site. Stop in and put some sweetness in your life. 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 18.

Who’s Who? This is going to be fun! Bring in an old photo and everyone will try to guess who is who! Baby, graduation, military, wedding photos; pick your best likeness. Prizes and refreshments. 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 23.

Integrative Memory Enhancement Program: Is your brain healthy? Is your forgetfulness normal? Learn how you can give your brain more exercise with COA’s Integrative Memory Enhancement Program (IMEP) classes. 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 25.

Feeding Northeast Florida: This is a series of free nutrition classes and cooking demonstrations from the local foodbank, Feeding Northeast Florida. Topics covered: My Plate, Basic Cooking Skills, Food Safety, Shopping on a Budget, Meal Planning and Physical Activity. 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 30.
