Journalist and author Bob Woodward will visit Flagler College on April 16 for a conversation about his expert perspective on political reporting as part of the Flagler College Presidential Speaker Series, which is in its inaugural year.

The series brings notable thought leaders to campus to share global perspectives, inspirational stories and career insights. As the second guest in this series, Woodward will lead “A Conversation with Bob Woodward,” at 7 p.m. in the Lewis Auditorium. Please note that tickets have been sold out.

This presentation is open to students, faculty and community members who can expect an in-depth analysis of America's current state through the lens of the history Woodward has lived and experiences he's collected as a political journalist.

Revered in the field of political journalism, Woodward is an associate editor of The Washington Post, where he's worked since 1971. He has shared in two Pulitzer Prizes, first for the coverage of the Watergate scandal with Carl Bernstein, and second as the lead reporter for coverage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

“He has an extraordinary ability to get otherwise responsible adults to spill [their] guts to him ... his ability to get people to talk about stuff they shouldn’t be talking about is just extraordinary and may be unique," former CIA director and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said, noting that he wishes he would have recruited Woodward to the CIA.

The decorated journalist first gained international attention when he and fellow reporter Bernstein uncovered the Watergate scandal in 1973. But since then, Woodward has worked to shine a light on the inner workings of the U.S. government. From Nixon to the present, Woodward provides guests with firsthand insights from his coverage of the White House, the Supreme Court, the CIA, the Pentagon and Congress.

As the author of 22 nonfiction books, 15 of which became No. 1 bestsellers, Woodward has told the stories of multiple American presidencies, chronicling how the power of the presidency has evolved. His journalism throughout the decades has revealed these national leaders’ breadth of successes and failures.

Woodward’s reporting on presidential successes and failures was his key to realizing important lessons to be gleaned from the nation's capital. These lessons touch on everything from governing and presidential leadership during various national crises to the role of the media in politics.
